Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has taken his first pole for the prancing horse and Ferrari’s first for 2015.
He and the car has shown good pace during the three open practice session but was undermined by the threat of Mercedes. However the fight came from Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo in the qualifying session.
Kimi lost a few tenths throughout the lap and couldn’t make it a lock out front row.
Mercedes are left to lick their wounds and see how they can overcome the might of the Ferrari’s and Red Bulls for tomorrow night’s race.
Vettel – “Unbelievable I know it’s only Saturday the big job is coming tomorrow but I had to enjoy the moment when we made it. The car was fantastic to drive and I got the maximum today and I was surprised by the margin. But I was very happy to make it to the finishing line as it felt like a perfect lap. But I am sure the Mercedes will be quick tomorrow.”
Kimi – “We will see tomorrow our race pace, I had difficulties yesterday but today we had a good result for the team. I was surprised to be in this position after the difficulties I had this morning. We will try and do a good job tomorrow and get both cars on the podium.”
Maurizio Arrivabene said after qualifying, “I am happy especially for the team as they work very hard the last few months so together we deserve it. But as I said many time we do not make point on Saturday we make points on Sunday so we will see tomorrow if the performance continues.”
Ferrari this year had a goal to win two races in 2015 and has now put its hand in the hat again for a third.
